Prior to toilet training your child has been using diapers, and toilet training can feel like a mountain to climb for both you and your child. Before you begin the process of toilet training your child, try these two things to ease your child’s fears and help them learn what it means to use the toilet.
#1: Read books about using the toilet to your child. There are many great books out there that talk about the steps of toilet training and being exposed to it in this way can help them understand. Use an animated tone and point to the pictures to engage your child.
#2: Let them practice sitting on a small toilet or place a kids seat on your toilet. When you are doing this the purpose will be to let your child explore and get familiar with the toilet. Give them some positive reinforcement when they sit still on the toilet. Try to keep calm and don’t get upset if your child does not get it right away.
We can help you understand where your child is in the process and help you to create a plan. Contact us via our contact us form with any questions or schedule a free 15-minute call from our services tab.
